While the flowers bloom outside, we are all looking to refresh our home just as nature refreshes the landscape. Everyone wants to spring clean this time of year. All winter long, we have spent time indoors. Now it is time to start anew.

It can be daunting to begin deep-cleaning your home. However, these five expert tips will help you get started.

Tip 1. Take an inventory of your cleaning supplies. Make sure you have enough to complete all your tasks. Make of list of each area you want to clean and what products you need. It is also an opportunity to switch to more non-toxic, Earth-friendly solutions. With your list in hand, take a shopping trip to stock up.

Tip 2: Start by the front door. Begin by cleaning the front door and entryway. These areas are often overlooked but seen first by guests. Imagine coming into your space for the first time. What do you see? Is it too busy, cluttered, or dusty? Work on those areas to create a calm portal into your home. Think about areas to place shoes, coats, bags, and other items near the door.

Tip 3: As you clean, carry a bag or box. You may find items you no longer use around the house. As you fill boxes or bags, set up an area to collect items to donate to charity. It is a process where you can use the expert advice of a professional organizer. They can guide you as you declutter.

Tip 4: Go low and aim high. Take a damp cloth to clean baseboards and a duster to sweep away cobwebs or dust high above. These areas often are overlooked in day-to-day cleaning. There are many reusable dusters available to help you do these tasks.

Tip 5: Create beauty in each room. Look at your home like a hotel or a cozy inn. Add plants, flowers, and candles as the finishing touch to your cleaning. When you enjoy clearing your spaces, you will be more likely to keep them tidy. If you were a guest in your home, how would you like to feel?

Bonus Tip: Set aside a reward for yourself for every room you spring clean. Ideas for rewards include a coffee date with yourself, a stroll outside to see the spring blooms or a relaxing afternoon reading your favorite books or magazines. It will help keep you motivated to finish your cleaning tasks.
